S2E12 Angela Rushing’s Story

Angela Rushing shares how she was brought up in a household with an alcoholic father and a passive-aggressive mother. As a result, she was left with no one to nurture her and felt unwanted.

Before she knew it, she had undergone two abortions,. When she found herself pregnant once more, she knew she couldn’t do it again. So she began to research private adoptions and discovered the couple who would become the adoptive parents of her child.

In this episode, Angela gets very honest about the whole process. It wasn’t until after she gave birth that depression and suicidal thoughts triggered her to look into her past. It was only when she processed her feelings that she was able to come to terms with her life. Angela talks about her current life and her relationship with her daughter. According to her, that reconnection helped her become the woman she is today.

Angela is the founder of Healing Birth Moms which is a community of birth mothers sharing their stories to heal and support others that are in their same space. She believes that getting rid of the shame and stigma that goes along with being a birth mother is essential to healing, self discovery and ultimately the feeling of being complete.
